About the event

Strategy rarely fails because the plan was wrong. It fails because the people who have to deliver it never saw themselves in it, because the organization quietly rewards something other than what the plan asks for, and because the real picture stops reaching the top long before anyone says so out loud. Between them, Catherine Mattice and Charlie Newark-French have watched hundreds of strategies play out up close, in the organizations they've worked inside and the leadership teams they advise. They're going to talk honestly about what decides whether a plan survives contact with the people meant to deliver it.

Culture doesn't sit in one person, and it doesn't only come down from the top. We'll look at the three places it actually lives, why blaming one difficult person rarely fixes anything, and what changes when you check what's being rewarded instead.

Making Strategy Everyone's Business

Most people didn't take the job to deliver a strategic plan. We'll look at how cadence, assessment, and reward decide whether a plan feels real to the people executing it, and what the smallest useful ask of a team actually is.

Culture gets talked about as a soft thing that happens to you. We'll look at what it takes to plot it out, execute it, and measure it like any other strategic objective, and how you'd know it was working.

Founder and CEO
Catherine Mattice, MA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, is the founder/CEO of Civility Partners, an organizational development firm focused on helping organizations create respectful workplace cultures and specializing in turning around toxic cultures. Civility Partners’ clients range from Fortune 500s to small businesses across many industries. Catherine is a TEDx speaker and an HR thought leader who has appeared in such venues as USA Today, Bloomberg, CNN, NPR, and many other national news outlets as an expert. She’s an award-winning speaker, author, and blogger and has 60+ courses reaching global audiences on LinkedIn Learning. Her fourth book, Navigating Toxic Work Environments For Dummies (Wiley), is available in all major bookstores and where audiobooks are sold.
Charlie Newark-French
CEO
Charlie is a seasoned enterprise software CEO with a track record of scaling and transforming high-growth companies, including Sharpen, Hyperscience, and Fuze. He specializes in building, selling, and deploying next-generation technology — particularly AI-powered solutions — for large and mid-sized enterprises, with deep expertise across both SaaS and on-premise models. Before his operating roles, he was an investment partner at a growth equity fund, where he led deals resulting in two IPOs and three strategic acquisitions. He began his career in strategy consulting at McKinsey & Company in London, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics and Management from the University of Oxford.
