An Overview to Business Strategy Challenges

Strategy is hard. It's one thing to come up with a great plan - but as we all know, that's just the beginning.

Whether the issue is getting buy-in from your stakeholders or simply finding the time to execute, the road to success is going to be littered with mines, just waiting to blow up in your face.

We've worked with thousands of organizations as they walk this path, and over the years we've managed to consolidate these problems into 3 that just keep cropping up.

Strategy Challenge #1:
Strategy Ideation & Creation

Sometimes, getting started is the trickiest step of them all. If any of the following sounds familiar, you're likely experiencing strategy challenge number 1:

  • You have a vague idea of what you want to achieve, but when you write it down it never seems to reflect the grand visions you have in your head.
  • You don't have a clear understanding of the steps you need to follow to get from your vision to delivery of your strategy.
  • You want to apply a strategy framework but have no idea which one will help you the most.
  • You've created a strategy, but it looks crazy-complicated and unachievable.

Strategy Challenge #2:
Getting Engagement

This happens when you have a plan, but you're not getting the buy-in that you need from the organization to deliver it. Maybe you don't feel empowered enough, or maybe you do feel empowered, but people simply refuse to get excited about your awesome vision for the company.

  • You need buy-in from your boss so that he / she can get the organization behind the strategy.
  • You are the boss, but you don't feel as though your people will get behind your bold new direction.
  • You have one or two problem individuals who you just know are going to derail things.

Strategy Challenge #3:
Keeping Focused

This strategy headache is the most frustrating of them all. You've got the plan up and running, but you're scared that the organization is losing focus and drifting back to how things were before the launch of your awesome new strategy.

  • People aren't following through on the goals they've been assigned under the plan.
  • Nothing has really changed between the before and after of launching the plan.
  • New things keep getting added to the plan that don't necessarily help contribute towards the vision.

We've written a ton of content on how to solve these problems and I've linked to those articles above. But at Cascade, we're all about serious solutions to serious strategy problems.

That's why we built Cascade in the first place, and that's why we want to make sure that our next release ticks exactly the right boxes. So let us know what you think.

Feel like your own strategy challenge doesn't fit into one of the categories above?

No problem - just leave a comment below and we'll include that too. Over the next few weeks, we'll be working hard to tweak our next release to deliver against all of the above.
