Who is the Performance Action Plan template for?

The Performance Action Plan Template is for any manager or supervisor in any industry who is looking for a structured and effective way to improve the job performance of their team. With this template, you can create an action plan that outlines each focus area, objective, and project to address performance issues and reach your goals.

1. Define clear examples of your focus areas

A focus area is a broad term that describes the main areas of improvement that you want to tackle with your Performance Action Plan. Examples of focus areas may include 'Increase Employee Productivity,' 'Improve Communication,' and 'Increase Sales.' These focus areas are what you will use to guide the development of your plan and create objectives and related projects.

2. Think about the objectives that could fall under that focus area

Objectives are specific goals and results that you seek to achieve within each focus area. For each focus area, you should create objectives that are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Objectives should be achievable within a reasonable timeframe and should be able to be measured.

Examples of some objectives for the focus area of Increase Employee Productivity could be: Develop New Training Processes, and Enhance Employee Performance.

3. Set measurable targets (KPIs) to tackle the objective

KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators, are measurable targets that you set for each objective. For example, if your objective is to 'Improve Employee Performance,' you may set a KPI of 'Increase employee performance rating from 3.5 to 4.0' to measure your progress. These KPIs should be quantitative, measurable, and easily understood.

4. Implement related projects to achieve the KPIs

Projects (or Actions) are the initiatives that you will do to achieve the KPIs. Projects should be specific and realistic and should be broken down into smaller, achievable tasks. For example, if your KPI is to 'Increase employee performance rating from 3.5 to 4.0,' a related project might be to 'Implement weekly performance reviews.'
